Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Prabowo Subianto expressed confidence that Indonesia’s law enforcement institutions are upholding integrity and will not show favoritism in prosecuting offenders, even if the perpetrators are their own members.

He highlighted the Indonesian National Police (Polri), the National Armed Forces (TNI), and the Attorney General’s Office as institutions that must carry out their duties with responsibility and discipline.

"I am convinced that all these institutions will not hesitate to take action against their own members in the event of deviation. I believe in them," Prabowo stated at the Polri Headquarters in South Jakarta on Wednesday.

The president acknowledged that given the vast size of the police and military, it is rather inevitable that some personnel might commit violations. However, he underlined that such individuals do not represent the overall integrity of their institutions.

He reiterated that law enforcers would not hesitate to prosecute any wrongdoers among their ranks.

Turning to the relationship between the public and law enforcement, Prabowo observed that some citizens tend to act lawfully only when being monitored by the police.

"This is not right," he stressed, urging the public to foster self-discipline and awareness.

He further noted that many people overlook the crucial role of law enforcement in protecting them from non-traditional security threats, such as drug smuggling attempts through small ports across the country.

Bearing that in mind, the president called for stronger synergy between citizens and law enforcement bodies.

"I would like to remind you that soldiers and police officers must serve the people, earning their trust so they can help you by reporting violations to local authorities," he remarked.

President Prabowo delivered the statement during an event highlighting Polri’s achievements in his first year in office. On that occasion, the police reported seizing 214.84 tons of narcotics from 49,306 cases uncovered since October 2024.

The president also led the destruction of about 2.1 tons of drugs, part of the total confiscated narcotics.
