Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian shooting team is targeting to bring home 14 gold medals from their participation in the 2025 SEA Games in Thailand this December.

This was stated by the Secretary General of the Indonesian Shooting Sport Association (Perbakin), Nova Ismailiyanto, during a monitoring of the team's practice in Jakarta on Thursday.

“In the last two editions of the SEA Games, our achievement improved from 7 gold medals to 8 gold medals with the roster of athletes we had. We do not want to get ahead of ourselves, but hopefully, we can bring home 10-14 gold medals,” he said.

Ismailiyanto then explained that Indonesia will send 44 athletes to compete in 30 events. Among these 30 events are the 10-meter airgun, 25-meter pistol, 50-meter rifle, shotgun, and practical shooting events.

He noted that his optimism for gold medals was grounded on several things, including the good preparation of the athletes.

He further said that the team also has a quality coaching team and has adopted global-standard technology.

“Furthermore, the ranges we have meet international standards,” he added.

On the same occasion, the Indonesian Chef de Mission (CdM) for the 2025 SEA Games, Bayu Priawan Djokosoetono, also expressed confidence that the shooting team would win many medals in Thailand.

“Indonesia is actually superior in shooting within Southeast Asia. Thus, we are highly confident that shooting can contribute many gold medals at the SEA Games, and the athletes themselves are also very optimistic,” he remarked.

Indonesia has indeed won a significant number of shooting medals at the last two editions of the SEA Games.

At the 2019 SEA Games, the Indonesian shooting team contributed a total of 15 medals, consisting of seven gold, six silver, and two bronze.

During the 2021 SEA Games, the shooting team earned 16 medals, comprising eight gold, six silver, and two bronze. Meanwhile, at the 2023 SEA Games, shooting was not contested.
