To this end, he called on AI developers and AI-based platform managers to adopt strong governance to ensure their platforms are trusted by the public.
"Trust by design must be the principal guideline in AI governance. Privacy, security, and ethics must be integrated from the very beginning," he said in a statement on Thursday.
According to him, platforms must prioritize ethics and fairness to ensure AI generates results that are free from bias.
In addition, the data governance policy is also critical in ensuring platforms comply with the Personal Data Protection Law (PDP Law).
Patria also emphasized that platforms need to provide a clear audit mechanism to guarantee transparency and accountability.
"In this highly competitive and fast-moving market, companies that are secure by default and prioritize privacy will win the trust of users, regulators, and global partners," the deputy minister remarked.
In this regard, he asked AI developers to meet official global standards, such as ISO/IEC 42001:2023 concerning AI management systems, so that Indonesia can build AI that is transparent, secure, and trusted by the public.
The Indonesian government is currently preparing two presidential regulations on AI: the National Roadmap for AI Development and AI Ethics, which have been drafted and will serve as the foundation for ethical, secure, and sovereign AI governance.
According to Patria, this step is Indonesia's rapid response to the surge in the use of AI technology.
Since Indonesia has yet to have a special law regulating AI, the issuance of the presidential regulations is deemed the right step to ensure clear regulatory frameworks in AI development and utilization in the country.
