Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Public Works reported that the Jakarta Sewerage Development Project (JSDP) Zone 1 in Pluit, North Jakarta, has reached 41 percent completion.

“Building a centralized wastewater system is not only about installing pipes and facilities, but about advancing civilization,” Public Works Minister Dody Hanggodo said in a statement issued in Jakarta on Friday.

He added that modern sanitation infrastructure ensures a cleaner, healthier, and more livable environment.

The project is part of the ministry’s efforts to accelerate the development of modern sanitation infrastructure across the capital.

JSDP Zone 1 consists of four major construction packages forming a key part of the city’s integrated wastewater management system.

The centralized domestic wastewater treatment system (SPALD-T) represents a strategic government effort to provide safe and sustainable sanitation services while contributing to national sustainable development goals in the water and sanitation sectors.

Once completed, the infrastructure is expected to serve approximately 989,000 residents, or about 220,000 household connections, across eight subdistricts in North, West, and Central Jakarta.

The entire project is financed through a loan from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) valued at Rp6.37 trillion (approximately US$383 million).

Director General of Human Settlements at the ministry, Dewi Chomistriana, said the modern wastewater system will allow Jakarta residents to enjoy a cleaner environment while enabling the regional government to operate a more efficient and integrated sanitation network.

She said that the initiative also supports President Prabowo Subianto’s Asta Cita vision—a national framework aimed at achieving self-reliance through green economic transformation—by introducing modern and sustainable waste management solutions.
