Deputy for Climate Change Management and Carbon Economic Value Governance at the Ministry of Environment and Forestry, Ary Sudijanto, said the drafting process began in May.
The NAP is one of the mandatory documents for countries that have ratified the Paris Agreement.
“In less than six months, we have produced a draft through an extensive process of technical consultations with ministries, agencies, non-governmental organizations, experts, and local governments. One of the core principles of developing the NAP is inclusiveness and stakeholder participation, including representatives of vulnerable groups, youth, and children,” Sudijanto said on Friday.
He made the remarks during a public consultation on the preparation of the National Adaptation Plan held in Jakarta.
So far, only 68 countries have submitted their NAPs on climate change to the UNFCCC Secretariat. Indonesia plans to submit its plan during COP30 in Brazil next month.
“We will demonstrate to the global community Indonesia’s commitment to reducing greenhouse gas emissions and strengthening the climate resilience of our communities and ecosystems,” he added.
According to Sudijanto, the NAP will serve a strategic role in leveraging resources for climate change adaptation efforts. The public consultation marks the final step before Indonesia submits the document in November.
He noted that Indonesia already has the necessary foundations to develop the NAP, including the Climate Resilient Development document issued by the National Development Planning Agency (Bappenas).
Along with the climate adaptation policy for the health sector issued by the Ministry of Health, and the climate adaptation roadmap released by the Ministry of Environment and Forestry a few years ago.
Sudijanto added that the NAP outlines key components such as impact inventories, climate projections, adaptation and implementation strategies, as well as monitoring and evaluation mechanisms.
