Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Environment has officially begun drafting the National Adaptation Plan (NAP) for Indonesia to address the impacts of climate change.

The ministry's Deputy for Climate Change Mitigation, Ary Sudijanto, stated here on Friday that the NAP is one of the documents that must be immediately submitted by countries that ratified the Paris Agreement to the UNFCCC.

He made this statement during the launch event of the NAP preparation in Jakarta.

He underlined that adaptation is crucial, given Indonesia's vulnerability as an archipelagic country to climate change impacts.

Sudijanto outlined that the NAP should include an inventory of impacts, climate change projections, preparation of adaptation measures based on impacts, implementation strategies, and systems for monitoring and evaluation.

Indonesia has already had a foundation for preparing the adaptation plan, including the Climate Resilient Development document issued by the Ministry of National Development Planning, the health sector's climate change adaptation policy, and the climate change adaptation roadmap released by the Ministry of Environment and Forestry.

"I believe other ministries and agencies also already have the basis for that. Thus, the NAP is expected to be able to prepare a vision and measures for climate change adaptation that are spread in various ministries and agencies," he remarked.

The adaptation plan in each ministry and agency can then be integrated into national and regional development policies and plans.

"It will help us to jointly mobilize resources so that climate change adaptation interventions can be carried out more effectively and efficiently," he remarked.
