Jakarta (ANTARA) - Former Indonesian president Megawati Soekarnoputri has urged the international community to build a new global order founded on humanity, justice, and equality through the universal values of Pancasila.

Speaking at the International Seminar on the 70th Anniversary of the Asia-Africa Conference in Blitar, East Java, on Saturday, Megawati said Pancasila is not merely Indonesia’s national ideology but a philosophy capable of bridging ideological, racial, and economic divides.

"The old world built upon colonialism and imperialism must be replaced by a just world," said Megawati, who also chairs the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P), quoting from a party statement.

She recalled the thoughts of her late father, Indonesia's first president Soekarno, who proposed Pancasila at the 1960 UN General Assembly as a foundation for building a fair global order.

Pancasila, she added, serves as a global ethic balancing material and spiritual life, individual rights and social responsibility, and national sovereignty with international solidarity.

Amid global moral crises, digital inequality, and prolonged geopolitical tensions, Megawati said the world needs universal values rooted in humanity rather than power.

"Without a strong moral foundation, the world will remain trapped in hegemonic conflicts such as the Russia-Ukraine war and the Middle East crisis," she remarked.

She also emphasized the need for UN reform to make it more democratic and representative of all nations.

Megawati further noted that Soekarno's vision of "To Build the World Anew" can only be realized if moral values are placed at the core of development and technological progress.

"The new world is not one that submits to machines and capital, but one that places humanity at the center of civilization," she said.
