Bondowoso (ANTARA) - East Java Governor Khofifah Indar Parawansa on Saturday launched the first export of 10 tons of Java Ijen Raung specialty Arabica coffee from Bondowoso District to Taiwan.

“This is Java Ijen Raung Arabica coffee, which has special characteristics. This is not ordinary coffee—it is high-quality coffee produced by farmers in Bondowoso,” Khofifah said after inaugurating the export at Rejoagung Village, Sumberwringin Sub-district, Bondowoso.

The Arabica coffee from smallholder plantations in the Mount Ijen and Mount Raung areas has obtained Geographical Indication (GI) certification under the name Java Ijen Raung.

Governor Khofifah said the export reflects the superior quality of Bondowoso’s Arabica coffee. She noted that Bondowoso has long been exporting coffee, but this shipment is special as it consists of specialty-grade beans.

“I believe the quality of Bondowoso coffee continues to improve, and this should motivate farmers to keep enhancing both quality and productivity,” she said.

“If those two aspects improve, the welfare of Bondowoso coffee farmers will also increase significantly,” she added.

The specialty Arabica coffee is processed through several stages involving strict and selective sorting.
