“BPBD Jakarta has activated the standard disaster response protocol for coastal flooding, including readiness for temporary evacuation if water levels exceed 50 centimeters or pose safety risks,” Special Staff to the Jakarta Governor for Social Communication Chico Hakim said here on Wednesday.
According to him, the coastal flooding, caused by rising sea levels, is forecast to occur between November 5-10, 2025. However, as of November 5, no mass evacuation has been required since the flooding remains at a potential stage.
He explained that 257 evacuation sites have been prepared across North and East Jakarta with a total capacity of 39,599 people, including multipurpose halls, mosques, and schools.
Priority will be given to vulnerable residents in 11 flood-prone subdistricts, such as Kamal Muara and Kapuk Muara. Evacuation, if necessary, will begin 24 hours before the peak of the coastal flooding on November 6, with free TransJakarta bus transportation.
The Jakarta Provincial Government has also prepared 200 portable toilets at evacuation points and BPBD posts, equipped with clean water and disinfectants.
“This is part of the disaster logistics package, which also includes ready-to-eat meals and medical supplies in coordination with the health office,” Hakim added.
Earlier, Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung Wibowo reminded residents of potential tidal flooding in early November.
He stated that the city will deploy 600 water pumps through the Water Resources Office and continue normalization programs for the Krukut River and Ciliwung River to strengthen flood control in South Jakarta.
