Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology (Kemdiktisaintek) is preparing Indonesia’s future leaders through the 2025 Future Leaders Camp (FLC) Regional II for Sumatra, held at Baiturrahmah University (Unbrah) in Padang on Thursday, November 6.

Director General of Higher Education Khairul Munadi said the FLC, a strategic initiative of the Directorate of Learning and Student Affairs (Belmawa), aims to cultivate young people who are principled, ethical, and capable of creating positive societal impact.

“Indonesia has no shortage of intelligence, but it needs leaders with integrity — those who lead with heart and uphold national values,” he said, praising the participants’ enthusiasm from across Sumatra.

Khairul emphasized that leadership is more than speaking skills or organizing events; it is about creating meaning and making a difference for others.

He added that FLC provides a crucial platform to nurture value-based, impactful leadership aligned with the “Diktisaintek Berdampak” policy, which positions higher education as a hub for lifelong learners, innovators, and social change agents.

Beny Bandanadjaja, director of Belmawa, noted that FLC is a new program launching in 2025, with five regional sessions planned: Java, Sumatra, Sulawesi-Maluku-Papua, Java II, and Kalimantan-Bali-Nusa Tenggara. Regional II in Sumatra selected 62 participants from 55 universities, chosen from more than 1,300 applicants nationwide.

“These young leaders are potential changemakers on campuses and in communities, guided to become transformative leaders,” Beny said.

The program provides training from academics, industry experts, and national youth figures, covering leadership, social innovation, public policy, and a policy hackathon to strengthen analytical and problem-solving skills through collaboration.

FLC is part of Kemdiktisaintek’s broader strategy to accelerate higher education transformation, ensuring graduates are not only academically excellent but also socially conscious and capable of contributing meaningfully to national development.
