Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Prabowo Subianto has urged the National Police Reform Acceleration Commission to start its work immediately and to convey an initial report of progress in three months following the commission's establishment.

Chair of the National Police Reform Acceleration Commission, Jimly Asshiddiqie, stated that President Prabowo has given directions regarding the steps the team needs to prepare, and the results will be reported periodically to the President.

"This commission is expected to work as quickly as possible, but the President did not give a time limit. There will be a report within a minimum of three months, although this can be extended if necessary," he said at the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, on Friday.

Asshiddiqie explained that President Prabowo set three months for the commission to submit an initial report. However, if it requires more time, such as six months, that is still possible according to need.

"We hope everyone involved will manage their time, since this is a very serious matter that needs to be addressed effectively and quickly," he remarked.

According to him, the commission's inaugural meeting is scheduled for Monday (November 10) at the National Police Headquarters in Jakarta.

The team is expected to work quickly and openly by listening to aspirations from various groups, including community leaders, activists, and police personnel.

He further said that President Prabowo had asserted that the commission's establishment is part of efforts to respond to public aspirations regarding the need for evaluations against the National Police (Polri), particularly following the large-scale demonstrations last August.

He explained that his commission's work results will not only focus on recommendations but also on the process of formulating reform policies involving various parties.

The commission will also synergize with an internal team established by the Polri Chief, which focuses on management improvements within the police institution.

President Prabowo Subianto on Friday inaugurated 10 members of the National Police Reform Acceleration Commission, including Asshiddiqie, who also serves as the chair, and Home Affairs Minister Tito Karnavian, who previously served as Polri Chief for the 2016–2019 period.
