Jakarta (ANTARA) - The newly inaugurated Head of the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN), Arif Satria, has pledged to accelerate the development of science-techno parks (STPs) across Indonesia to boost regional development and economic growth.

He said that STPs need to be strengthened to help the government and industries address local challenges through research-based solutions.

"If each province has strong research and innovation ecosystems that collaborate with universities, I believe many regional problems can be effectively resolved," he told reporters after his inauguration in Jakarta on Monday.

Satria explained that STPs play a strategic role in supporting regional economies by serving as a bridge between research and industry.

"With science-techno parks focusing on each region’s areas of excellence, God willing, the local challenges can be addressed through innovation," he remarked.

He emphasized that STPs can help ensure that research outputs are not only academically valuable but also beneficial to regional governments, local industries, and communities.

"The acceleration from research to invention and then to innovation is what we must realize by strengthening and expanding science-techno parks in every province," Satria stated.

He also underscored the importance of collaboration between the central and regional governments to enhance research capacity across the country.

Satria, who also serves as Rector of IPB University, was officially inaugurated as Head of BRIN by President Prabowo Subianto at the State Palace in Jakarta, succeeding Laksana Tri Handoko.
