This strategic direction is intended to support the government’s priority programs.
Following his inauguration on Monday, Satria emphasized the importance of immediate coordination with various stakeholders—including ministries, government agencies, universities, industry players, and regional administrations—to implement research initiatives in these sectors.
“BRIN will support the President’s priority programs related to food, energy, and water. I believe these three areas must be backed by strong research and innovation,” he told reporters in Jakarta.
He elaborated that BRIN’s research targets in the food sector will encompass both agricultural and non-agricultural domains, including seed development, fertilizers, cultivation techniques, and post-harvest processing.
Looking ahead, Satria affirmed that BRIN will expand its pool of researchers in these fields, improve their quality, increase research funding, develop infrastructure, and strengthen the overall research ecosystem.
“We need to boost the number of researchers, as our ratio of researchers per million people is still relatively low compared to countries like Thailand and South Korea,” he noted.
To address this, he stressed the need for a robust recruitment system. “We will enhance talent management in research. Individuals with a passion for research are valuable assets for BRIN and for ministries aiming to make significant progress,” he added.
Satria, who also serves as rector of IPB University, was officially inaugurated as BRIN Head by President Prabowo Subianto at the State Palace in Jakarta, replacing Laksana Tri Handoko.
