Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia’s Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology and the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) are joining forces to strengthen the country’s sustainable materials technology ecosystem through the 6th International Seminar on Metallurgy and Materials (ISMM) 2025.

The three-day seminar, held at the B.J. Habibie Science and Technology Area in South Tangerang from November 4–6, brought together researchers, academics, and industry leaders to discuss innovations in metallurgy and advanced materials.

Director General of Research and Development Fauzan Adziman said the forum underscored the importance of building a national research ecosystem that addresses industrial, market, and regulatory challenges.

“Industry-led research collaboration supported by universities and research institutions is key to accelerating national innovation,” Adziman said in a statement on Thursday.

He added that Indonesia must shift from dependence on imported raw materials toward deep-tech-based innovation in metallurgy and materials science.

“We aim to create research that not only produces new knowledge but also delivers concrete solutions for business and society,” he said.

BRIN Head Laksana Tri Handoko praised the participants and partners who contributed to the success of ISMM 2025, saying the event marked another step in the country’s efforts to build an open and collaborative research ecosystem.

He said BRIN continues to promote stronger partnerships between researchers and the private sector to accelerate product development and commercialization.

“BRIN is committed to developing a collaborative mechanism that allows industry to be directly involved in creating research-based products with efficient investment and measurable risks,” Handoko said.

He expressed hope that ISMM 2025 would reaffirm Indonesia’s commitment to fostering a research ecosystem focused on real-world applications.

“Global synergy in metallurgy and materials research is a crucial foundation for building a sustainable and impactful technological future,” Handoko said.
