Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesian Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka highlighted the importance of collaborative work between the central and regional governments to reduce the national stunting rate to 14.2 percent by 2029.

He conveyed this while opening the 2025 National Coordination Meeting on Accelerating Stunting Reduction in Jakarta on Wednesday.

"We need collaboration on this program. The key is synergy between the central and regional governments," Gibran emphasized.

According to him, the effort to accelerate stunting reduction involves all elements, ranging from the government and institutions to integrated health posts (Posyandu) and the Family Empowerment and Welfare team (PKK).

He mentioned that the achievement of reducing stunting prevalence to 19.8 percent in 2024 is proof of success in collaborative efforts. This figure exceeds the projection of 20.1 percent, or a decrease of approximately 357,000 children compared to the previous year.

"This result is also accompanied by a reduction in toddlers' wasting, overweight, and anemia among pregnant women," the vice president remarked.

He then drew attention to the significant challenge, where President Prabowo Subianto has targeted a reduction in stunting prevalence to 14.2 percent by 2029.

To meet this target, Gibran emphasized the need for stronger cross-sector coordination and consistent implementation of nutrition intervention programs in every region.

He also lauded several regions with significant results, for example, the West Java Province, with a successful reduction in stunting rates by 5.8 percent in one year.

Data from the 2024 Indonesian Nutritional Status Survey (SSGI) recorded a stunting prevalence of 19.8 percent in Indonesia. The government is committed to reducing the stunting prevalence to 14.2 percent by 2029 and reaching 5 percent by 2045.

This target has been determined in the 2025-2029 National Medium-Term Development Plan (RPJMN) and the 2025-2045 National Long-Term Development Plan (RPJPN).

This National Coordination Meeting, themed "Strengthening a Joint Commitment to Prevent and Accelerate Stunting Reduction in Indonesia," underlined the importance of sustainability and commitment of all parties to accelerate stunting reduction.
