In a statement delivered in Jakarta on Tuesday, Brian reminded private university leaders of the urgent need to strengthen student character as a national asset.
He called on campuses to create an academic environment that fosters integrity throughout students’ learning journeys.
Brian acknowledged the significant challenges faced by private universities in producing high-quality human resources.
However, he remained confident in their ability to meet the evolving demands of higher education, noting that more than half of Indonesia’s university students are enrolled at private institutions.
He encouraged greater exchange of experiences and collaboration among campuses so that quality improvement efforts do not take place in isolation.
The minister reiterated the strategic role of private university leaders and lecturers in fulfilling the state’s mandate to advance the nation.
He urged private universities to expand cooperation with industry and local governments to deliver tangible benefits for communities.
He stressed that higher education should not stop at research and innovation but must generate practical solutions to local issues, including through students’ final projects.
As part of this commitment, Brian said the ministry continues to align programs and policies to realize the agenda of impactful higher education.
This includes adopting more flexible policies for developing academic human resources, supporting private universities as hubs of innovation and community empowerment, facilitating cross-sector collaboration, and advancing higher education transformation through technology and modern governance.
With this collaborative spirit, the ministry believes that the vision of Indonesia Emas 2045 can be achieved as a shared and concrete national goal.
Educational institutions are encouraged to help students build strong integrity, as it forms the foundation of character, honesty, and responsibility - qualities essential for future personal, academic, and professional success.
Integrity enables students to avoid academic misconduct such as plagiarism, develop a positive reputation, and prepare themselves to become ethical and trustworthy leaders in the workplace.
