In his statement on Saturday (11/22), Minister of P2MI Mukhtarudin emphasized that the government will try to provide protection when Indonesian migrant workers are treated inhumanely or experience exploitation abroad.
"We are paying serious attention to this case. The government will ensure that every migrant worker receives full protection and restoration of their rights," he said.
He added that his ministry and the Indonesian Embassy (KBRI) in Kuala Lumpur had taken swift action, including sending a diplomatic note to the Malaysian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, to ensure the case received full attention from local authorities.
Legal assistance to victims is provided through lawyers appointed by the Bar Council of Malaysia.
KP2MI and the Indonesian Embassy also provided direct assistance to Seni, facilitated communication with her family, and issued a Travel Document in Lieu of a Passport (SPLP) for the victim.
Mukhtarudin stressed his ministry’s commitment to ensuring a transparent and fair legal process and continuing coordination with Malaysian authorities until the case is resolved.
He urged the public to always use official placement channels when working abroad and to report any instances of violence, exploitation, or fraud during the placement process.
Seni had worked as a domestic worker for more than 20 years. She was overworked and underpaid by her employer.
