At the session in Johannesburg, South Africa, on Sunday (November 23), he emphasized that the benefits of technological advancement should not be concentrated only among a few developers in developed nations.
"A fair and just future for all is our shared goal. However, we must be honest: are we moving toward that future, or moving away from it?" he spoke at the forum.
He then called on member countries to ensure the inclusiveness of the AI revolution that brings real benefits to all levels of society.
During the session, Gibran also highlighted AI's dependence on critical minerals, from chips to data centers, whose demand continues to rise.
However, he said, for years, developing countries have remained raw-material exporters, while the real added value is enjoyed elsewhere.
If this situation continues, he believes the digital gap will widen, and developing countries will once again become victims of global inequality.
"The previous industrial revolution was built on this inequality. We must not repeat it," he pointed out.
On that occasion, Gibran also called on the importance of ethical AI governance and equal access to data, technology, and global platforms, to bring equal opportunities for innovators around the globe.
Based on this statement, he mentioned that Indonesia opted to develop domestic industries and downstream processes to benefit its people from its own natural resources.
According to Gibran, Indonesia does not decline investment, but rather opens fair partnerships, linking technology transfer, investment, and responsible practices in the utilization of critical minerals.
Concluding his speech, the vice president asked all G20 countries to oversee the new industrial revolution in the AI sector for the benefit of all parties.
"Indonesia believes the future must be built on justice, justice in technology, in the use of natural resources, and justice for workers," he concluded.
