Tangerang District (ANTARA) - The Indonesia government has instructed all regional administrations to complete their environmental protection and management planning (P3LH) documents by 2026.

Environment Minister Hanif Faisol Nurofiq said in Tangerang, Banten, on Tuesday that the documents will serve as a key reference for development planning at national, provincial, district, and municipal levels.

He said P3LH documents are expected to guide the formulation and enforcement of environmental protection standards and become the basis for issuing environmental clearances.

The minister noted that the documents will also function as essential references for strategic environmental studies conducted by local governments.

"We need a solid foundation. Therefore, we have decided to give district, municipal, and provincial governments time to complete the documents by 2026," he said.

Nurofiq warned that the central government will take over the issuance of environmental clearances if regional authorities fail to meet the deadline.

"If provincial governments are not ready, we will centralize the process to ensure environmental clearances align with proper environmental planning," he said.

He stressed that environmental management plans must follow established national and sub-national policies rather than rely on assumptions.

Nurofiq added that the ministry plans to work with the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) and other institutions to monitor environmental issues, including greenhouse gas emissions from forest and land fires.

"We are aiming for synergy with the BMKG and the BIG," he said, referring to the National Geospatial Agency.
