Mojokerto, East Java (ANTARA) - President Prabowo Subianto's electric pedicab donation program is expected to benefit about 5,000 elderly drivers across Indonesia by the end of this year, according to the National Solidarity Movement (GSN) Foundation.

GSN Foundation Deputy Chair Nanik Sudaryati Deyang said around 2,300 electric pedicabs have been distributed so far, approaching the 5,000-unit target.

"We aim to distribute an additional 6,000 units in 2026," she said during the handover of 100 electric pedicabs to residents in Mojokerto District, East Java, on Tuesday.

Deyang said President Prabowo used his personal funds to procure the vehicles, stressing that the initiative is not financed by the State Budget.

She added that the foundation is accelerating distribution to help drivers who still rely on traditional or rented pedicabs to earn a living.

"The assistance is expected to provide relief, especially since the pedicabs, each worth Rp22 million (around US$1,324), are given free of charge," she noted.

She expressed hope that beneficiaries will maintain the modernized pedicabs, which can travel up to 22 kilometers on a single battery charge.

Deyang also encouraged regional administrations to allow pedicabs access to major arterial roads to help boost local economic activity.

During a similar event in Jombang District on Monday, she noted that President Prabowo had ordered 10,000 electric pedicabs from state-owned defense company PT Pindad and 1,000 units from PT Len Industri.

She added that the program includes training for technicians who will provide free, round-the-clock maintenance for beneficiaries.
