Deputy Transportation Minister Suntana said in a press briefing Wednesday in Jakarta that this year’s program will follow last year’s model, with the government providing buses, ships and trains to transport both passengers and motorcycles to major destinations.
“As in previous years, the government will provide free holiday transport using buses at several terminals, and for those traveling with motorcycles, we will offer trains and ships to carry the vehicles to designated regions to reduce road accidents,” Suntana said.
The government is finalizing capacity figures, but Suntana said the quota will exceed last year’s allocation.
In addition to the national program, several state-owned enterprises and the Jakarta provincial government will run their own free travel schemes.
“The official numbers will be announced soon, but capacity will definitely be higher than last year. State-owned companies and the Jakarta governor will also offer similar programs,” he said.
During the 2024 year-end holidays, the Transportation Ministry’s free travel program provided 38,772 passenger seats and transported 2,320 motorcycles by bus, ship and train.
