Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Agriculture has distributed feed, vitamins, and medicines to protect livestock affected by the Mount Semeru eruption in Lumajang, East Java.

“The Ministry of Agriculture has provided 14 tons of feed, including fresh forage, silage, and complete feed, which are being distributed gradually through technical units,” Director of Veterinary Health I Ketut Wirata said here on Thursday.

The feed assistance will be delivered from late November to early December 2025 by the Singosari Artificial Insemination Center (BBIB), Baturraden Center for Superior Livestock and Forage Seeds (BBPTUHPT), and Cipelang Animal Embryo Center.

In addition to feed and vitamins, medicines, disinfectants, and personal protective equipment for field officers are being provided by the Directorate of Animal Health, Wates Veterinary Center (BBVet), and the Veterinary Pharmaceutical Center (Pusvetma).

The ministry ensures that protecting animals during disaster events follows animal welfare principles while prioritizing the safety of field personnel to prevent further impacts.

Head of Animal Health at the Lumajang Food Resilience and Agriculture Office, Endra Novianto, emphasized that cross-sector cooperation is crucial for the rapid recovery of livestock affected by the eruption.

The move aims to maintain livestock populations, restore animal health and welfare, ensure food security, and strengthen inter-agency coordination amid the Mount Semeru eruption emergency.

Mount Semeru, standing at 3,676 meters above sea level, erupted on Wednesday (November 19) with a hot cloud flow reaching seven kilometers from the summit.

“The pyroclastic flow is ongoing, with a travel distance of 7 km from the peak, and the eruption was still active at the time of the report,” said Semeru observation post officer Mukdas Sofian last week.
