According to a press release on Friday, the two ministers met on Thursday (November 27) and discussed several international security concerns.
“Among the issues highlighted during the talks was the importance of maintaining the Indo-Pacific as a free, peaceful, and stable region, supported by the ASEAN Outlook on the Indo-Pacific and the Indo-Pacific Ocean Initiative,” the release stated.
Sjamsoeddin and Singh also reviewed the longstanding defense ties between Indonesia and India, emphasizing the need to strengthen cooperation through the establishment of the Joint Defense Industrial Cooperation Committee (JDICC).
Both countries envision the JDICC as a strategic platform to promote collaborative projects in the defense sector, including technology transfers and joint research and development.
The two ministers further agreed to expand military cooperation through joint exercises and personnel exchanges for education and training programs.
Sjamsoeddin expressed hope that the dialogue and future initiatives would reinforce the harmonious and enduring diplomatic relations between Indonesia and India, particularly in defense and security.
The New Delhi meeting followed an official visit to Jakarta last October by General Anil Chauhan, Chief of Defense Staff (CDS) of the Indian Armed Forces.
He was received by Minister Sjamsoeddin and Deputy Minister Donny Ermawan Taufanto.
During their one-hour meeting, both sides discussed cooperation in military education and training, with Indonesia expressing interest in sending cadets to India for further studies.
Talks also covered medical and pharmaceutical cooperation, including plans to send Indonesian doctors to India for specialist training and explore joint initiatives in defense pharmaceuticals.
In addition to bilateral discussions, General Chauhan visited several key facilities of Indonesia’s defense industry, including state-owned defense manufacturer PT Pindad and shipbuilder PT PAL.
