According to a statement, he used the launch of the 2026 National Press Day in Serang, Banten, on Sunday to draw attention to the disasters, which have claimed more than 300 lives as of Saturday afternoon, November 29.
"We would like to invite all attendees to a moment of silence and prayer for our brothers and sisters in Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra who are suffering from hydrometeorological disasters," Munir said.
Speaking in his capacity as Chair of the Indonesian Journalists Association (PWI), he virtually greeted PWI regional leaders in the three affected provinces and asked about the most urgent needs of residents.
In this context, he announced the launch of PWI’s fundraising initiative to procure essential goods for citizens in the impacted regions.
Also attending the event, Indonesian National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo conveyed his condolences to the victims.
He assured the public that the government, the police, and the military will continue sending aid, including clothing, communication equipment, and evacuation tools, in addition to ongoing search and rescue operations.
"We are determined to create safe and secure routes for the distribution of logistics and aid to ensure they reach residents in need on time," he said.
The police chief also urged Indonesian journalists to strengthen synergy in countering misinformation in the post-truth era.
"For our part, we are committed to ensuring the safety of reporters in the field, as we understand that many of them risk their lives to deliver information to the public," he stated.
In Jakarta on Friday, November 28, President Prabowo Subianto reiterated that the government is closely monitoring developments in the affected regions before deciding whether to declare a national disaster emergency. He stressed that the priority remains delivering adequate assistance to victims.
He also described the hydrometeorological hazards as a reminder for the nation to strengthen vigilance and place greater importance on environmental protection.
