Jakarta (ANTARA) - The National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) informed that four-wheeled vehicles are now allowed to pass through the North Sumatra route to Kuala Simpang in Aceh Tamiang, though with speed limitations, following restoration work on the disaster-affected road.

"The target is for the route to be 100 percent passable by Wednesday. Today's work involves removing some of the debris piled up along the roadside," BNPB Head of the Disaster Data, Information, and Communication Center, Abdul Muhari, said here on Tuesday.

He stated that heavy equipment from the Public Works Department continues to clear soil, mud, and other debris obstructing road access.

Meanwhile, his office has dispatched support teams to all affected districts and cities, led by Jarwansyah, the Deputy for Rehabilitation and Reconstruction (BNPB Deputy 4).

"This assistance includes the distribution of logistics and equipment by sea and air, updates of data and information, command systems, and other essential needs during the emergency response phase," Muhari conveyed.

He explained that sea-based aid distribution was sent from Banda Aceh to Langsa, the entry point, with a travel duration of approximately two days.

For air routes to Aceh Tamiang, BNPB has deployed helicopters to deliver aid via airdrop to several locations, including fields near Babo and Perupuk in Bandar Pusaka Sub-district.

Items dispatched in this phase include 100 ready-to-eat meal packs, 100 hygiene kits, 50 basic food packages, 100 blankets, 100 mattresses, and 25 sets of cleaning supplies.

The reopening of access from Medan to Aceh Tamiang, Langsa, and Lhokseumawe is expected to support communities and all stakeholders during the emergency response and recovery phase.

"Once access is restored, the distribution of logistical and food aid, the restoration of electricity and telecommunications networks, and the clearing of debris can be carried out more efficiently," Muhari stated.
