Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian Military’s Army (TNI AD) has installed Starlink satellite communication units to restore connectivity in flood-affected areas of West Sumatra.

Head of the TNI AD Information Office Colonel Donny Pramono confirmed to ANTARA in Jakarta on Thursday that the devices were supplied by the Regional Military Command Communication and Electronics Unit (Komlekdam) of Kodam XX/TIB and the Defense Ministry.

“This effort is a crucial step in reopening information networks in areas that were previously isolated due to damage to telecommunications infrastructure,” he said.

A total of 33 units from the ministry and five units from the Indonesian Army Signal and Communications Center have been distributed to District Military Commands (Kodim) before being sent to flood-hit locations across West Sumatra.

“Installations are carried out directly by Kodam XX/TIB personnel at sites requiring emergency connectivity, such as shelters, local government offices, Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) posts, and search and evacuation areas,” he said.

The satellite support is expected to strengthen coordination between central and regional authorities and enhance cooperation during evacuation and post-disaster recovery efforts.
