“In line with my statement to the House of Representatives, our team has begun law enforcement by sealing four of the 12 legal subjects suspected of violating forestry regulations related to the disaster in Sumatra,” he said in a statement on Saturday.
He emphasized that the ministry would take firm legal measures and would not compromise with individuals or groups responsible for forest destruction.
“I reiterate that there will be no compromise for anyone proven to have damaged Indonesia’s forests. We are committed to strictly enforcing the law without discrimination,” he said.
The four sealed locations include the TPL Concession Area in Marisi Village, East Angkola sub-district, South Tapanuli District; and land rights holder (PHAT) Jhon Ary Manalu from Pardomuan Village.
The others are PHAT Asmadi Ritonga from Dolok Sahut Village, Simangumban sub-district, North Tapanuli District; and PHAT David Pangabean from Simanosor Tonga Village, Saipar Dolok Hole sub-district, South Tapanuli District.
The Ministry of Forestry’s Directorate General of Law Enforcement is currently investigating alleged forestry violations in the Batang Toru River Basin (DAS) in North Sumatra. Investigators are collecting wood samples and gathering statements as part of the process.
The ministry has also identified eight additional legal subjects that will be sealed soon.
“Besides the four legal subjects that have been sealed, eight more have been identified and will be sealed shortly,” he said.
He added that the ministry will continue conducting in-depth investigations to determine potential criminal violations and administrative fines.
