Head of the BNPB Disaster Data, Information, and Communication Center, Abdul Muhari, said in Jakarta on Thursday that the scale of displaced residents reflects the severe impact the disasters have had on the affected communities.
As of Wednesday afternoon, December 10, Aceh Province had registered 831,124 evacuees, with 391 fatalities and 31 people still reported missing.
North Sumatra recorded 45,965 displaced residents, along with 340 fatalities and 128 people missing. In West Sumatra, the number of evacuees reached 17,412, with 238 deaths and 93 people still unaccounted for.
BNPB underscored that meeting the basic needs of evacuees remains the top priority. Assistance in the form of food, clean water, medicine, and protection for vulnerable groups such as children, pregnant women, and older adults continues to be provided at evacuation posts.
The response involves coordination between the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI), the National Police (Polri), regional governments, and volunteers. Muhari said joint teams are consistently monitoring affected locations, verifying victim data, and ensuring the equitable distribution of aid.
He added that BNPB has recorded a decline in the number of missing persons to 252, indicating steady progress in search and rescue (SAR) operations despite limited access and extreme weather.
The agency also highlighted the importance of effective logistics management at the main command posts across the three provinces to ensure the fast distribution of aid.
These command posts serve as hubs for logistics and information, supporting the smooth implementation of emergency operations and evacuee management.
BNPB reaffirmed its commitment to closely monitor developments to minimize risks for affected communities until all evacuees’ needs are met and SAR operations are fully completed.
