Padang Pariaman, W Sumatra (ANTARA) - West Sumatra Governor Mahyeldi has instructed district heads and mayors in the flood- and landslide-hit regions to immediately prepare land for the construction of temporary housing for the affected residents.

"We must accelerate the construction of temporary housing. The affected communities need safe and humane places to live," he remarked in Padang Pariaman District on Saturday.

The governor noted that the construction of temporary housing is urgently needed following the disasters that devastated residents' settlements in several districts and cities.

Temporary housing is a solution that allows survivors to quickly move into safer and more decent places to live while awaiting the rehabilitation and reconstruction process.

"I ask the district heads and mayors to immediately prepare the land while also ensuring the location is not in a disaster-prone area," he stated.

He affirmed that all financing for the construction of temporary housing will be covered by the central government through the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB).

Meanwhile, the regional governments are responsible for preparing data on affected homes, land acquisition, and site readiness.

According to him, there are only four districts that have reported land readiness for the construction of temporary housing: South Pesisir, Agam, Lima Puluh Kota, and Padang Pariaman.

In addition to land provision, he also stressed the importance of accelerating data collection to ensure the rehabilitation and reconstruction process can begin immediately after the emergency response period ends.

"West Sumatra's emergency response period lasts until December 22nd. If the data is complete, we want to immediately proceed to the rehabilitation and reconstruction stages," he said.

Mahyeldi explained that there are two aid schemes for residents whose homes were severely damaged or destroyed by the disasters.

First, the temporary housing allowance scheme, which is intended for communities that relocate independently. Second, the temporary housing and permanent housing scheme, which is intended for relocations facilitated by the government.
