Jakarta (ANTARA) - The government is offering discounts on land, sea, and air transportation tickets during the 2025 Christmas and 2026 New Year holidays to help ease congestion on toll roads.

"The government has provided stimulus measures to alleviate congestion," the Deputy Chief of the Indonesian National Police, Commissioner General Dedi Prasetyo, said on Monday.

He detailed that the discounts offered include a basic fare discount on sea and ferry transportation, a 30 percent discount on train tickets, and a 13-14 percent discount on airline tickets.

Earlier, Minister of Transportation Dudy Purwagandhi encouraged the public to use the economic stimulus in the form of transportation fare discounts during the Christmas and New Year holiday period.

Based on the direction from President Prabowo Subianto, the stimulus program is a concrete step to stimulate the national economy while ensuring optimal service for the public during the year-end holidays.

The 2025/2026 Christmas and New Year's fare discount stimulus was established through a Joint Decree from four Ministers/Heads of Agencies: the Minister of Transportation, the Minister of Finance, the State-Owned Enterprises Agency (BP BUMN), and Indonesia's sovereign wealth fund, Danantara.

The joint decree mandates state-owned enterprises in the transportation sector to provide fare discounts for sea, ferry, and rail services.

The fare discount stimulus will be implemented simultaneously starting November 21, 2025. For rail and ferry transportation, the discount applies to trips between December 22, 2025, and January 10, 2026.

For sea transportation, the stimulus package begins earlier on December 17, 2025, to January 10, 2026, to accommodate shipping operational needs.

This policy continues the earlier initiative that reduced airfares by 13–14 percent at the end of October, following the issuance of Minister of Finance Regulation No. 71 of 2025 on Government-Borne VAT for air transport services. Around 3.59 million passengers are expected to benefit from the discount.
