Medan (ANTARA) - The Indonesian Military disaster response task force of Yon Armed 2/Kilap Sumagan carried out clean-up operations at residential areas and a market affected by flooding in Huta Godang Village, Batang Toru sub-district, South Tapanuli District, North Sumatra, to accelerate the recovery of social and economic activities.

The clean-up was conducted jointly with Yonif TP 905, Koramil 01/BT under Kodim 0212/South Tapanuli, units of the North Sumatra Police Mobile Brigade, and local residents.

Head of Public Affairs of Kodam I/Bukit Barisan, Colonel Inf. Asrul Kurniawan Harahap, said in Medan on Tuesday that the activity was part of post-disaster environmental recovery efforts following floods and landslides in South Tapanuli.

He explained that the clean-up focused on removing mud, wooden debris, and accumulated waste in residential areas and public facilities, including the market.

“Joint personnel were deployed to accelerate environmental normalization so that social and economic activities can gradually resume,” Asrul said.

According to him, the operation was carried out in an integrated manner involving the military, police, and local communities as part of cross-sector synergy to restore disaster-affected areas.

“This cross-sector collaboration is expected to speed up environmental recovery while also providing a sense of safety and comfort for affected residents,” he added.

Asrul emphasized that the involvement of the disaster response task force alongside military and police personnel reflects a strong commitment to assisting communities after disasters.

“Clean-up efforts will continue until environmental conditions fully recover, allowing community activities to return to normal,” he said.

He added that his office would continue to coordinate with local governments and relevant stakeholders to ensure that residents’ basic needs are properly met.

“We remain fully committed to supporting disaster response efforts in affected areas until all access is fully restored,” he said.
