Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Prabowo Subianto directed his staff to also focus on schools, hospitals, and community health centers damaged by flash floods and landslides in Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra, alongside efforts to speed up the construction of shelters for evacuees.

"If possible, schools should also be given attention, along with community health centers and hospitals, to function as quickly as possible," he remarked in a limited meeting in Aceh Tamiang on Thursday.

Prabowo led a limited meeting for the second time on handling the impact of the Sumatra disaster in Aceh, attended by several ministers and officials.

Flash floods and landslides struck several districts and cities in Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra on November 25, 2025, claiming more than a thousand fatalities, hundreds missing, and tens of thousands of homes, bridges, hospitals, community health centers, schools, and other vital buildings destroyed or severely damaged.

However, a month after the disaster, Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya announced on December 29, 2025, that 87 hospitals affected by the disaster in Sumatra had resumed operations and were providing healthcare services to the public.

He added that the government is also working hard to restore hundreds of community health centers damaged by the flash floods. Of the 867 community health centers affected by the disaster, most are operational, with eight remaining unable to operate normally.

In the education sector, Teddy explained that the government is also continuing efforts to restore school buildings submerged by mud and debris from the flash floods, with the help of military personnel to clean up flood debris at affected locations.

He confirmed that several schools have now been cleaned and can be used for teaching and learning. However, students are currently on holiday.

"Even though it's the holiday season, some children are playing there and learning a little," Teddy said.
