Padang, W Sumatra (ANTARA) - The National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) ensured that the Indonesian government has sufficient resources to address the impacts of floods and landslides in Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra.

"We have all the necessary regulatory, budgetary, and material resources to manage the disasters in the three affected provinces," BNPB Principal Secretary Rustian said in Padang, West Sumatra, on Friday.

He noted that since the disasters struck the three provinces in Sumatra, the central government, in coordination with local authorities as well as the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) and the National Police (Polri), has worked together to handle the impacts.

Rustian assured that the government will provide all necessary resources and meet the needs of affected residents.

BNPB also urged the public not to worry, emphasizing that the government will continue to be present on the ground.

He pointed out that, unlike during the COVID-19 pandemic—when Indonesia had to seek international assistance for masks and vaccines due to limited domestic supplies—the country now has sufficient resources to independently meet disaster response needs.

Rustian also expressed readiness to provide information regarding disaster response measures and the disaster status in the three provinces.

During his visit to Padang, he stated that the government continues to coordinate with experts to accelerate emergency response efforts and move toward the rehabilitation and reconstruction phases.

Meanwhile, West Sumatra Governor Mahyeldi affirmed that the provincial government is continuing to move swiftly with rehabilitation and reconstruction efforts in disaster-affected districts and cities.

Severe floods and landslides hit three provinces—Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra—in late November 2025 following high-intensity rainfall.

According to BNPB data as of Friday (January 2), the death toll from the disasters across the three provinces has reached 1,157, while 165 people remain missing.
