“When I arrived two days ago with President Prabowo Subianto, all fuel stations were already operating and fuel supplies were sufficient,” he said here on Saturday.
The minister noted that a number of strategic locations and access roads, including bridges, are now passable for public and logistics vehicles. Electricity networks have also gradually been restored in several disaster-hit areas.
However, he added that some points in the electricity network have not yet fully recovered.
As part of the government’s commitment to disaster management, Karnavian said all available resources have been mobilized to accelerate post-disaster recovery efforts in Sumatra.
“When I first arrived, mobile phone services were difficult to use. Now, the government has taken immediate steps to activate and restore all essential services,” he said.
He added that the Ministry of Home Affairs is currently focusing on accelerating the restoration of services at local government offices affected by the disaster.
“There are two key aspects of recovery. First, government offices must operate normally. Second, the economy must function, as reflected in buying and selling activities. Therefore, we are accelerating the recovery of regional government services,” he said.
The minister noted that 22 villages were wiped out by the disaster, consisting of 13 villages in Aceh, eight in North Sumatra, and one in West Sumatra. In addition, a total of 1,580 village offices across the three provinces were affected, preventing village administrations from operating normally.
To support recovery efforts, the ministry has deployed 1,138 cadets from the Institute of Public Administration to assist in accelerating post-disaster recovery.
Of the total personnel, 413 were deployed to Medan, followed by 414 to Aceh. Another 179 personnel were sent in the third batch, along with an advance team of 132 personnel.
