“While staying in temporary shelters, all basic needs of evacuees will be fulfilled by the government,” Mahyeldi said here on Saturday.
Meanwhile, for residents who choose to stay at the homes of family members or relatives, the government will provide monthly allowances. This assistance, he added, is expected to help flash flood survivors who are still in the recovery phase.
“While in temporary shelters, we ensure that evacuees’ basic needs are met. For those staying with family members, we will provide monthly assistance,” Mahyeldi said.
Specifically in Pesisir Selatan District, Mahyeldi said the local government has begun constructing temporary shelters for affected residents. The Type 36 shelters are expected to be ready for use soon by flood victims in the Taratak Teleang area, Bayang Utara Sub-district, Pesisir Selatan District.
In addition to temporary shelters, the government is also preparing the construction of permanent housing for residents whose homes were severely damaged or swept away by floods and are no longer fit for habitation. The construction of permanent housing will be adjusted to land availability, either on residents’ land or land prepared by the government.
Mahyeldi stressed that the local government is also gradually repairing disaster-affected infrastructure, including many roads, bridges, houses of worship, residential homes, and rice fields.
In line with the President’s directive, he said, the government is responsible for rebuilding homes that were severely damaged.
Meanwhile, for houses categorized as moderately and lightly damaged, data collection is being carried out by the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB), with assistance amounts set at Rp30 million for moderate damage and Rp15 million for light damage.
