“We provide cash assistance to households whose furniture was swept away by the floods. Houses that suffered damage are compensated based on the level of destruction, along with other forms of social assistance,” Yusuf said while inspecting a flood-affected area in Sungai Tabuk sub-district on Sunday.
He explained that the assistance provided in South Kalimantan Province follows the same standards applied in Sumatra, with adjustments made according to the severity and classification of flood damage.
“The government treats all victims equally. The assistance is the same, with no intention to discriminate, but it is adjusted to the conditions experienced by each affected household,” he said.
Yusuf added that for houses suffering severe damage, repair assistance will be carried out at their original locations whenever possible.
If on-site repairs are not feasible, the local government will arrange relocation for affected residents who agree to move.
During the emergency response period, he said both central and regional governments continue to closely monitor affected areas to ensure that residents’ urgent needs are met.
The minister noted that the government has deployed a comprehensive team supported by a structured and well-coordinated disaster response mechanism.
He added that the team will also coordinate and distribute assistance provided by various parties to ensure it reaches flood victims effectively.
During his visit to flood-hit areas in Banjar District, Yusuf observed that water levels in several residential areas remained high.
“We are waiting for the water to recede. Officers remain on standby at the site to anticipate potential risks. We must work together to address this situation,” he said.
