Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs has emphasized that all online gaming platforms must comply with child protection regulations in the digital space.

This includes strengthening age verification systems, limiting interactive features, and implementing effective content moderation.

“The government stresses that every platform is obliged to uphold child protection regulations, including stronger age verification, restrictions on interactive features, and effective content moderation,” said Director General of Digital Space Oversight at the Ministry Alexander Sabar in Jakarta on Thursday.

Alexander noted that many underage users continue to access online games by using their parents’ identities.

He explained that the Ministry is in ongoing dialogue with gaming platforms to address this issue.

The obligations of online gaming platforms are reinforced through Government Regulation No. 17 of 2025 on Electronic System Governance for Child Protection (PP Tunas).

This regulation requires all Electronic System Providers (PSEs), including digital platforms, to implement comprehensive and responsible child protection measures.

For games featuring user-generated content (UGC), the Ministry has established the Indonesia Game Rating System (IGRS) as the national standard for age and content classification, as well as a public education tool.

In addition to stronger collaboration with stakeholders, Alexander highlighted that protecting children in UGC-based games requires a combination of IGRS standards and platform governance.

This includes active and continuous content moderation, restrictions on communication features, and multi-layered age verification.

“These are the keys to creating a safe gaming ecosystem for children,” he said.

He also urged parents to play an active role in supervising their children’s digital activities.

Recommended steps include enabling parental controls, ensuring account ages are accurate, and monitoring the use of social interaction features such as chat and voice.

Additionally, Alexander advised parents to educate children not to share personal data, not to request or distribute others’ personal information, and to avoid accepting invitations from strangers to move interactions outside of gaming platforms.
