Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Jakarta Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) has reminded urban village heads of their role as the front line in flood management in their respective areas.

“Jakarta has regulations that designate urban village heads as disaster handlers. Everyone under their authority also becomes part of the front line during a disaster,” Head of the Jakarta BPBD Data and Disaster Information Center Mohamad Yohan said at a flood site on NIS Road, East Cilandak, South Jakarta, on Monday.

He said urban village heads and officials under them, including neighborhood (RT) and community (RW) administrators, must remain alert before, during, and after flood incidents in their areas.

In this regard, the Jakarta BPBD commended the East Cilandak urban village administration for its swift response in handling the flooding and assisting affected residents.

This was reflected in the establishment of a command post, complete with an information board displaying data on affected residents and required assistance.

“We appreciate the work of the village apparatus. This command post has been well prepared and is quite representative,” Yohan said.

The Jakarta BPBD has also prepared evacuation shelters and rubber boats for residents affected by flooding on NIS Road in East Cilandak.

Previously, the agency recorded that floodwater levels on NIS Road dropped to 65 centimeters on Monday afternoon, down from 95 centimeters recorded earlier in the day at around 9 a.m. local time.

The flooding on NIS Road was suspected to have been caused by heavy rainfall that led to the overflow of the Krukut River.

According to data collected by the Jakarta BPBD, the number of affected residents included 99 families or 326 people in RT 09/RW 03, 149 families or 476 people in RT 03/RW 03, and 45 families or 105 people in RT 13/RW 01.
