Jakarta (ANTARA) - Deputy Minister of Home Affairs Akhmad Wiyagus emphasized that village development is a benchmark of a country's progress and plays a crucial role in determining the direction of national development.

“This means Indonesia will progress if its villages progress,” Wiyagus said in a statement here on Wednesday.

He made the remarks after inaugurating the Outstanding Village Workshop at Pendopo Gedhe, Boyolali District, Central Java.

Wiyagus added that villages are at the forefront of public services while also serving as the main drivers of national development based on regional potential. Therefore, the advancement of villages is considered highly crucial.

According to Wiyagus, the achievement of the Golden Indonesia 2045 vision can only be realized if governance is well-managed and development in 75,266 villages and 8,496 urban villages is carried out sustainably and inclusively.

Moreover, he said, village development is one of the main priorities under the administration of President Prabowo Subianto and Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka.

In line with the sixth Prabowo-Gibran's Astacita missions, villages are no longer seen merely as objects but as empowered, independent, and innovative subjects of development.

In this context, Wiyagus appreciated the positive trend in village development, reflected in the increasing number of villages classified as developing and advanced.

This achievement is accompanied by strengthened transparency, increased public participation, and local economic growth through Village-Owned Enterprises (BUMDes).

Furthermore, Wiyagus also stressed the importance of strengthening people’s economy through the Red and White Village Cooperatives.

As a driver of production, distribution, and marketing of village products, co-ops are considered capable of being synergized with the Free Nutritious Meal (MBG) program through the provision of local food supplies and the strengthening of the national food supply chain.
