Almost all regions along the northern coast of Java are flooded, but why can Jakarta recede quickly? Because its pumping facilities are sufficient,
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung has planned to issue a work from home (WFH) appeal for employees and workers and implement distance learning policies if there are indications of flooding similar to last weekend.

“If it (flood) happens again (the WFH policy is advised, and hopefully it will not. When rainfall occurred last weekend it coincided with a long holiday, so there was no need for work from home,” he said at Jakarta City Hall here on Wednesday.

If there are flood indications on a working day, he will decide to implement WFH.

Not only for workers, Anung said, distance learning for the education sector will also be applied if flooding conditions in Jakarta are severe.

Nevertheless, the Jakarta Provincial Government continues to anticipate flooding in the capital, including by carrying out weather modification operations.

In addition, Anung instructed that all water pumps be operated at maximum capacity.

“Almost all regions along the northern coast of Java are flooded, but why can Jakarta recede quickly? Because its pumping facilities are sufficient,” he said.

However, he warned that if average rainfall this week reaches similar levels to last Saturday and Sunday, above 250 millimeters, flooding will certainly occur in Jakarta.

Previously, Anung explained that Jakarta was inundated because the rainfall forecast on Saturday was not considered high.

Therefore, no weather modification operations were conducted that day, but actual rainfall turned out to be higher than predicted.

He said rainfall on Saturday reached between 260 and 280 millimeters.

He added that he ordered weather modification operations on Sunday, warning that without them more areas would have been flooded, and noting that the operations had eased the impacts.
