"We are committed to overseeing the post-disaster rehabilitation and reconstruction phases in Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra," he said during an audience with the University of Indonesia at his office in Jakarta on Wednesday.
He explained that among the key agenda items on his forthcoming visit are reviewing and inaugurating temporary housing units for the displaced, as well as directly monitoring repairs to clean water infrastructure, health facilities, bridges, and houses of worship.
"Ensuring access to clean water for people there remains a pressing matter to this day," the minister affirmed.
Separately, AHY's advisor for public communication and information, Herzaky Mahendra Putra, highlighted that President Prabowo Subianto has instructed state institutions to exert all-out efforts to recover Sumatra from the disasters, which claimed nearly 1,200 lives.
With that in mind, he assured that the Coordinating Ministry for Infrastructure and Regional Development is currently focused on restoring affected infrastructure and facilities.
"We are working tirelessly every single day to ensure optimal rehabilitation and reconstruction measures," Putra affirmed.
Minister of Public Works Dody Hanggodo earlier stated that the government projects the total recovery of Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra could take as little as two years or up to three years to complete.
As part of ongoing recovery, he has also urged ministry aides to accelerate the development of temporary homes for disaster victims in Aceh to ensure that no one remains in evacuation tents by this year's Ramadan, expected to begin in February.
On that note, Hanggodo reported that the Ministry of Public Works has completed 98.75 percent of such homes in Karang Baru, Aceh Tamiang District.
