BMKG forecaster Jatmiko stated on Friday that these conditions are driven by a strengthening Asian Monsoon and a cold surge from the Asian mainland, which have increased wind convergence over Java.
"Over the next week, there is still potential for moderate to heavy rainfall in most of the Greater Jakarta area," he said.
The BMKG meteorology team confirmed that these atmospheric dynamics are triggering the growth of more intense and widespread rain clouds, especially in the Greater Jakarta area, which has experienced prolonged rainfall in recent days.
"Over the next week, there is still potential for moderate to heavy rainfall in most of the Greater Jakarta area," he said.
Monitoring results show that Jabodetabek has experienced light to extreme rainfall over the past 10 days.
The highest volume was recorded on January 18, 2026, at 267 millimeters per day. By 3 p.m. local time this Friday, January 23, rainfall had already reached 189 millimeters.
BMKG urges the public to remain vigilant and increase preparedness for the potential impacts of the rain, such as inundation, flooding, and disruption to activities, especially in areas prone to hydrometeorological disasters.
"Given the previously mentioned atmospheric dynamics, the potential for extreme weather is also predicted for parts of southern Indonesia over the next week, including southern Sumatra, most of Java, Bali, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB), and East Nusa Tenggara (NTT)," he said.
In response, the Jakarta provincial government has urged companies in the capital to implement flexible work and work-from-home (WFH) policies to mitigate the impact of widespread flooding.
This policy is outlined in Circular Letter No. e-0001/SE/2026 from the Jakarta Provincial Manpower, Transmigration, and Energy Agency concerning the Implementation of Flexible Work and WFH Systems Due to Extreme Weather, dated January 22, 2026.
Companies are requested to report their work system adjustments to the agency via https://bit.ly/HimbauanKerjaFleksibel.
