BNPB Data, Information, and Communication Center Head Abdul Muhari stated on Monday that Indonesia’s weather will be dominated by rainy conditions over the next few days.
Referring to the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) weather analysis, medium-to-heavy rainfall is expected to occur in Jakarta, Aceh, Bengkulu, Lampung, West Java, Central Java, and East Nusa Tenggara provinces.
The same weather conditions are also expected in Central Kalimantan, the entirety of Sulawesi, North Maluku, Central Papua, and Papua provinces.
Meanwhile, heavy rainfall and strong winds are expected to occur in Banten, Yogyakarta, East Java, Bali, West Nusa Tenggara, and Highland Papua, he noted.
In response to these conditions, residents are advised to remain cautious, especially during periods of heavy rain and strong winds, to avoid being affected by floods and landslides.
"Residents are also advised to avoid dangerous areas, such as under a large tree, advertising boards, and fragile buildings during inclement weather conditions," he added.
Muhari urged residents living in hilly or sloped areas to conduct self-evacuation to a safer place when heavy rain occurs for over one hour and to avoid landslide-prone areas.
BNPB also urged regional authorities to increase their vigilance and readiness during the peak of the rain season, including by ensuring the readiness of rescue personnel, equipment, and mitigation steps when disaster strikes, he remarked.
