In a statement cited in Jakarta on Tuesday, Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture Pratikno attributed the progress to consistent measures taken by ministries and relevant state agencies.
“However, certain aspects still require continued monitoring. The government remains committed to helping affected regions recover and become more resilient,” he remarked.
On mitigation efforts, Pratikno noted that the Ministry of Public Works has been working to develop infrastructure aimed at reducing disaster risks, including the construction of dams in regions that urgently require them.
He stressed that such measures are essential to building long-term resilience in areas vulnerable to natural disasters.
Home Affairs Minister Tito Karnavian provided further details on the government’s recovery initiatives, which aim to restore critical infrastructure and basic services, allowing social and economic activities to return to normal in disaster-stricken areas.
As chief executive of the Task Force for Accelerating Post-Disaster Rehabilitation and Reconstruction, Karnavian said five of the 16 affected districts and cities in West Sumatra have nearly returned to normal conditions.
He cited notable progress in the restoration of hospitals, educational facilities, and national roads, along with the gradual recovery of local economies.
Karnavian also highlighted similar developments in North Sumatra, where 11 affected districts and cities are approaching full recovery. In Aceh, however, eight regions still require intensive assistance, while nine are nearing normalcy and one has completed recovery.
He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to accelerating the reconstruction of homes and infrastructure, developing disaster mitigation facilities, and ensuring the sustained and effective distribution of aid.
