Jakarta (ANTARA) - Coordinating Minister for Food Zulkifli Hasan announced that the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) program has reached over 60 million beneficiaries, as the number of kitchens serving meals for the program continues to increase.

After a coordination meeting in Jakarta on Thursday, he noted that as of January 29, as many as 22,091 MBG kitchens, officially named Nutritional Fulfillment Service Units (SPPGs), have operated across the country.

He explained that the implementation of the MBG program involves supply chain support and partnerships, including direct labor at the SPPGs, suppliers, and partners.

According to him, the number of direct workers recorded at the SPPGs reached 924,424, with the number of workers in suppliers and partners involved in the program standing at 68,551 and 21,413, respectively.

Hasan further said that the recruitment process for contract-based government employees for the program is also underway, with 32,000 positions currently being processed.

During the meeting, ministries also agreed on the need to revise a joint ministerial decree regarding the list of SPPG construction sites funded by the central government to align with the readiness of implementation on the ground.

The minister noted that assignments funded by the Ministry of Finance were adjusted from 542 to 315 locations, while those under the Ministry of Public Works were reduced from 264 to 222 locations.

“This will require collaboration with local governments. There are issues regarding payments, land, and other factors, thereby requiring proper arrangements,” he remarked.

Head of the National Nutrition Agency (BGN), Dadan Hindayana, stated that the collection of beneficiary data is being carried out in collaboration with local governments, including for individuals without a national identification number and out-of-school children.

The MBG program was launched by the Indonesian government on January 6, 2025, as one of the priority programs of President Prabowo Subianto, aimed at improving the nutritional status of children under five, pregnant women, breastfeeding mothers, and schoolchildren up to the high school level.

With a target of 82.9 million beneficiaries, the program is one of the largest programs implemented in the country.
