Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Sumatra Regional Post-Disaster Rehabilitation and Reconstruction Task Force informed that the number of evacuees in the three disaster-affected provinces in Sumatra continues to decline as the response process progresses.

"The latest data we received from the Task Force Post shows that the number of evacuees is decreasing over time. It is hoped that all evacuees will eventually be free from evacuation posts," the task force's spokesperson, Amran, said in Jakarta on Thursday.

He explained that in West Sumatra Province, the number of evacuees decreased from 10,854 on January 24 to 9,040. Meanwhile, in North Sumatra Province, there were 11,085 evacuees, and in Aceh Province, there were 91,663 evacuees.

Based on the latest data, the total number of evacuees in the three provinces stood at 111,788, indicating a gradual downward trend.

On that occasion, Amran also outlined data on the progress of temporary housing construction in the three disaster-affected provinces in Sumatra.

In Aceh Province, the target of building 3,248 temporary shelters has been completed, and disaster-affected residents will gradually move into the provided shelters.

North Sumatra plans to build 962 temporary shelters, with 557 units currently completed, while the remainder is still under construction.

West Sumatra Province is also targeting the construction of 618 temporary shelters, with 476 units currently completed.

Amran also expressed hope that all relevant stakeholders would work together to support the Sumatra Regional Post-Disaster Rehabilitation and Reconstruction Acceleration Task Force, enabling communities to resume normal activities.

"We hope this process will proceed quickly and that all teams can complete the planned targets," he said.

In addition to temporary housing, the government also speeds up the distribution of staple needs and repair of several public facilities, namely schools, health services, and houses of worship in three affected provinces.
