Jakarta (ANTARA) - Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin stated that 22 of the 66 Regional General Hospitals (RSUD) under President Prabowo Subianto's directive program will be completed and operational by March or April 2026.

"We will report that, God willing, 16 hospitals will be completed by the end of February, and 22 will be completed by March or April," he said in Jakarta on Thursday.

Sadikin explained that construction of 20 RSUDs has been approved for 2026, while the remaining 24 will be built in 2027.

"About 16 are currently ready by the end of February, so the remaining six are expected to be completed between March and April," he added.

Director General of Advanced Health Azhar Jaya stated that these hospitals are equipped to treat catastrophic diseases such as cancer, heart disease, strokes, and kidney problems or uronephrology (KJSU).

"By building these intermediate-level hospitals, we hope that 80 percent of the community's health issues, including heart disease, stroke, cancer, urology, nephrology, and maternal and child health, can be treated here," he said.

The hospitals also meet Ministry of Public Works requirements, ensuring designs are disability-friendly and earthquake-resistant up to magnitude 8.

Jaya stated that the government has allocated Rp20 billion (US$1.19 million) to equip medical facilities for the hospitals ready for inauguration.

He mentioned that several medical devices, such as catheterization laboratories (cath labs), are still being delivered.

Director General of Human Resources for Health Yuli Farianti said that to ensure the hospitals have necessary healthcare workers, the ministry is using special assignments with incentives, residency deployment, and assignments from central hospitals.

Senior Expert at the Indonesian Government Communications Agency (Bakom RI) Adita Irawati added that building 66 fully equipped regional hospitals is one of President Prabowo Subianto's three "quick-win" health programs, alongside free health checks and tuberculosis elimination.

"This is to improve public health and ensure we have the quality human resources to achieve the vision of Golden Indonesia 2045," Irawati said.
