Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Prabowo Subianto has expressed hope that Muslims in Indonesia will experience abundance and tranquility during Ramadan, the holiest month in Islam, as they observe the obligatory fast throughout the month.

“God willing, we will have a calm, joyful, and abundant holy month with our families,” the president said in a message to Indonesian Muslims during Nahdlatul Ulama’s (NU) 100th-anniversary commemoration in Malang, East Java, on Sunday.

The president emphasized that his government places the people above all else and encouraged Indonesians to help foster a peaceful and abundant Ramadan by maintaining national unity and solidarity.

President Prabowo also urged the public to express gratitude and pray for the nation’s safety and unity, free from disasters and divisions that could sow various discord.

“Let us unite in prayer and endeavor so that the Indonesian nation will always be under the protection of the Almighty God and be spared from division and disasters,” he said.

On the occasion of Nahdlatul Ulama’s centenary, President Prabowo also expressed appreciation for the organization’s contributions to Indonesia’s history and its role in safeguarding national unity.

“Thank you, Nahdlatul Ulama, for your continued commitment to upholding the dignity of the Indonesian nation,” he remarked.

As Indonesian Muslims prepare to welcome the holy month of Ramadan, expected to begin next week, Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto on Tuesday, February 3, announced an economic stimulus package worth Rp12.83 trillion (about US$765.4 million) to boost consumption during Ramadan and the Eid al-Fitr holiday period from February to March.

The stimulus package includes discounts on transportation tickets and toll road tariffs, as well as social assistance in the form of 10 kilograms of rice and cooking oil for each beneficiary household over the two-month period.
