The fires have spread across 11 districts and two cities, National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) Spokesman Abdul Muhari said in Jakarta.
Of the total area burned, around 235 hectares have been extinguished through cross-sector operations, while the remainder is still undergoing firefighting and cooling efforts at multiple hotspots, he said.
Affected areas include the cities of Singkawang and Pontianak, as well as the districts of Kubu Raya, Sambas, Mempawah, Sintang, Melawi, Kayong Utara, Ketapang, Sanggau, Bengkayang, Landak and Sekadau, BNPB said.
Burned areas include 157 hectares in Mempawah, 139.7 hectares in Sambas, 101.7 hectares in Kubu Raya, 17.1 hectares in Ketapang, 14.5 hectares in Kayong Utara, 3.5 hectares in Sanggau, and one hectare each in Melawi and Singkawang.
Data collection is still underway in several other areas, which could push the total higher. No fatalities have been reported and the cause of the fires remains under investigation by law enforcement agencies, Muhari said.
Firefighting efforts involve provincial and district disaster response teams, the military and police, the Forestry Ministry’s Manggala Agni brigade, forest management units, community fire groups, local forestry offices, firefighters and the Indonesian Red Cross.
Several districts have declared emergency alert status, including Ketapang from January 15 to April 15, 2026, Kubu Raya from January 15 to December 31, 2026, Sambas from January 19 to April 30, 2026, and Mempawah from January 28 to December 31, 2026.
To speed up containment, BNPB has deployed aerial support including water-bombing aircraft, air patrols and drones to monitor hotspots, while reinforcing ground operations with additional water pumps and hoses, Muhari said.
ANTARA earlier reported that Indonesia’s Forestry Ministry is prioritizing mitigation and preparedness efforts in provinces with extensive peatlands and a history of frequent fires, particularly in Sumatra and Kalimantan.
