Badung, Bali (ANTARA) - Deputy Coordinating Minister for Political and Security Affairs Lodewijk Freidrich Paulus stated that the government adheres to the benchmark of Rp1,000 per vote per year for political party funding despite parties requesting an increase.

“From discussions with party representatives, they say the amount is still insufficient, but for now, we maintain the Rp1,000 per vote per year benchmark,” he said here on Wednesday.

He noted that while funding in other countries may be higher, any adjustment must come from the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK), and the ministry is waiting for updated recommendations if the current figure becomes outdated.

He cited Golkar Party as an example, which with 23 million votes receives Rp23 billion annually from the state budget.

KPK Secretary-General Cahya Hardianto Harefa explained that in 2019, KPK proposed Rp16,900 per vote, financed 50 percent from the state budget, and even suggested Rp10,000 per vote, but the government ultimately approved Rp1,000 per vote per year, which remains in effect.

Calls for an increase resurfaced after the 2025 Political Party Integrity Index (IIPP) showed a drop in the “Transparent and Accountable Party Finance” dimension from 60 to 44.5, while the overall average remained at 61.22, categorized as moderately high integrity.

Parties argue that demands for financial transparency should be accompanied by state support. Harefa stressed that integrity should not be measured solely by funding, but by parties serving as role models, with cadres spreading good governance practices.

“If the party itself demonstrates exemplary behavior, as measured by the Integrity Index, cadres in various positions are expected to spread good integrity,” Harefa said.

Although political party funding has not increased, KPK expects the integrity index of political parties will rise in the coming years, as it reflects the quality of leaders emerging from these parties.
